O2 UK - Error sending message??

    I have had my iPhone since last Friday. At purchase, I gave them a PAC code, to transfer my number from Vodafone to my new contract. They gave me a temporary number while I was waiting for my old number to port.

    I have been able to send sms messages just fine until today, when they ported my number over this afternoon. Now, I can only receive sms message, not send them. When trying to send them, I get an error, saying 'Error sending message'.

    Is this issue to do with the number porting?

    I believe so, as I have the same problem. I called them, they said it was normal but would fix itself within 24 hours.

    Is yours fixed?

    Gee... 02 are on a roll at the moment with the amount of screw ups with the iPhone.

    At least you have a service! =(

    At least this one's flagged on the web site. Search "message centre" to find the appropriate help item, I can't link to it.

    Exact same problem as first post, also moving from Vodafone....

    I can't send texts since my mobile number transfer

    You may find that you are unable to send text for up to 24 hours after your number transfer. Don't worry about this, it is normal.

    Yep basically porting goes through between 11-4. files are transferred accross the networks, An RSP file is sent straight away allowing you to make calls on your new network however it can take 24hrs for full service..

    Getting this error myself, also transferring my number from Vodafone... so this is good to know - thanks for the heads-up, chaps :)

    took about 5-6 hours after number transfer last week for texts to work too.
    Incoming were fine though, oddly enough.

    Give it a few hours and you'll be right.

    Same problem, even though I was porting from O2 to O2! Glad to hear it'll sort itself out.

    Same problem.

    After a week without veing able to send texts (I can receive them) follwing numbe being ported from Orange to 02. I was told by O2 Customer Services to reset network settings. No good. Told to go into an O2 store and get them to try the SIM card in another phone. No Good. They then tried a new SIM card in my phone. No Good. Tried the new card in another phone. No good. Tried another SIM card registered to someone else in my phone. It worked. It seems pretty clear that this is a porting problem but there is no sign of that on their sytem so they are insisting on sending me another SIM card. When that doesn't work I guess they will have to look into the porting issue!

    glad to have found this thread!

    my number just ported this morning from 3 to O2 and experienced the same problem, so hopefully it'll be sorted in a couple of hours...

    Yes, I'm also glad I found this thread - I've just ported from 3 to O2 and can't yet send text messages (number moved about lunchtime yesterday) so I'll try again at lunchtime today.

    Visual Voicemail didn't work when I first tried it either, but I was able to set it up this morning.

    I had the same on Monday when my number was ported for t-mobile to o2. Could make calls but no texts. all is fine now.

    Nothing to panic about.

    I ported the number over a couple of days ago, it started to transfer the services yesterday but I still can't send txts this morning.

    I rang O2 customer services and the guy said he'd called the iPhone support team, any numbers that where transferred yesterday are still having the txt send problems. They expect this to be resolved within 24 hours.
