I wonder if anyone can clear up my confusion with the O2 iPad tariffs.
I was just looking again at their plans, trying to work out what happens when you have used up your data allowance for that month, before the 30 days have passed?
This line on their site confused me a little:

"If you find that you're surfing a bit more than expected and need more data, you can always top up 500MB extra.

It's also important to know that at any time, you can only have a maximum of 5GB on your account."

As it is a recurring monthly fee, would that be the same date each month? If you used up the data, say, a week before that, do you then have to add data on a daily basis (they charge £2/day for 500mb)?
Or would we have to cancel the plan, then reinstate the plan, starting from that day, and do that each month?

I'm probably missing something and have just got myself into a tizzy trying to work it out, hence I figured I'd ask here.

Thanks in advance to anyone that might help.

    Neil.

My understanding is that if you buy, say, a month of service capped at 3GB, your service will stop when you either use up all 3GB or the month comes to an end, whichever happens first.

At that point the iPad will ask you if you want to buy another month capped at 3GB (or any other option available) and if you decide to do so then yes, you get a new month starting on that particular date. You don't have to wait to the end of the original month.

    Hope that helps.

Say I opt for the 3GB plan on Day 1 of a month. I'm charged immediately for it, and would expect to be charged again on Day 1 of the next month. It's a recurring plan.

But let's say I use up my 3GB by Day 10 of that month. So I opt to buy another 3GB. Now the question is, do I get charged on Day 1 of the next month, or is that recurrence automatically cancelled; and am I charged on Day 10 of the next month instead? Or am I restricted to the 500MB top-up, and do I have to make that last till the end of the month?

Knowing the UK network operators as I do, I am somewhat sceptical that things have been set up in our, rather than their favour.

The line that bothers me the most is this line:

"If you find that you're surfing a bit more than expected and need more data, you can always top up 500MB extra."

It doesn't say anything about starting a new monthly fee, why would anyone pay for another 500mb when they could just start a new month?

It's probably blatantly obvious to some people, but me, I can't get my head around it.......I guess I'll just wait and see.

As most have stated simply put we just don't know!! but to hazzard a guess I would assume you would receive a warning your close to your limit then be offered to buy additional data either daily or in 1GB.

No need to apologise my loyal subject :p Theres a new face for you to pull ;)

I picked an 02 sim when ordering my ipad as it looked the best deal against orange & Vodafone who have since changed their tariffs twice !! To be honest the 3G was just back up most of the time I will be using wifi.

Yeah, I ordered the O2 SIM too, will probably be using Wi-Fi mostly (at home) and 3G at work/in the car etc. I get better coverage with O2 at the places I go. The reason I asked the question was because I was looking at my iPhone usage to determine how much I'd use on the iPad. I actually figure I'd use more 3G data on the iPad than I do on my iPhone, as web browsing etc will be that much nicer.
