I got an iPhone and a brand new o2 contract the day the iPhone came out in the UK (start of November). I just got an email from o2 UK that says...

O2 email said:
"It's time for your upgrade"

We're writing with regard to your Pay Monthly mobile phone contract.

We just wanted to let you know you're now eligible for a free mobile upgrade. However, if you'd prefer to hold on to your current handset, you can have £100 credit added to your bill instead or change to our new sim only tariff, simplicity.

As I'm only about 7 months in to an 18 month contract it seems strange I'm getting this mail now. Does this have anything to do with the new iPhone coming out? Any other o2 iPhone customers get the same email?

Will look out for that, I got the phone also on the very first day. Hope its for the 3g phone cos im def getting one!

But your also right cos its not even a year yet to get an upgrade.

The small print at the end of the email says I have to decide what I want by the 30th June... seems to fit well into the release timeframe if it is coming out at WWDC. I'll wait and see what happens at WWDC and if I can get a free upgrade to the 3G iPhone then I'll take that, otherwise I'll take the £100 credit.

Are you sure it's about your iPhone -- no other phones on your plan?

This is really cool, I wonder if I can expect anything from AT&T. I haven't had mine since launch though... got it in early November I think.

I'm on the £35 a month plan (the lowest). I don't have any other phones at all, and this iPhone is the first phone contract I've ever had with O2.

Have done my contract, on a rolling 1 month Simplicity conrtact and haven't heard anything from O2. Wait for the postie tomorrow eh?

I've had mine since day one in the UK, on the £35 a month tariff and I haven't got that email :(

Dammit, too, because it'd be awesome to have £100 towards the new phone.

Sounds like France's Orange is premature on this front too.
https://www.macrumors.com/iphone/2008/05/28/orange-offering-3g-iphone-upgrade-deals-prematurely/

French website PCInpact reports that Orange, Apple's official carrier of the iPhone in France, has been contacting existing customers with upgrade offers for the rumored 3G iPhone.

The first solution is a direct swap where owners can trade in their existing iPhone and get the second gen version for 50 euros.

The other option for those who would to keep their current iPhone, but also want the (supposedly) 3G version means they can buy the new model enjoying a "generous" discount.
Apple's 3G iPhone is expected to be announced at WWDC. Given Apple's preference for secrecy, it would appear as though such solicitations are being made prematurely.

same here - although i never activated my o2 contract - will i get an email? ;)

i hope that free £100 isnt the subsidy, i hope there is a subsidy for all new iphone purchasers...

so o2 will let u use your iPhone on SIMplicity? this is so unfair i want this too.. wawaaaaaaaaaaaa

Ditto. Day one purchase, no email.

Me neither. Which is a real shame.

That said, my old phone was about three months out of contract on O2 before the iPhone came along, and I didn't get any such offer then either.

Sadly I suspect this is a individual cock up, because if the rumours of much better purchasing terms on the V2 are true then it would be nice to see some recognition for the people who were early adopters. Not expected, but nice.

I didn't even know that O2 would allow a free upgrade on the iPhone contract.. it just doesn't seem the same like all the other O2 contracts.

I remember seeing on most normal ones that you could get a free upgrade to another phone at the end of the contract.. But I somehow failed to read it anywhere on the iPhone O2-UK Contract....

Hmm.. well I guess we will have to see if this is one big lie, a mistake, or it will actually happen soon.

Aren't you meant to get a text about it anyway?

I didnt have anything yet either. So maybe it was a mistake on his account or it was a one off.
