If you want to use these glasses, okay.
But they will constantly stare at other people and record, possibly identify, them and monitor and report everybody's locations and movements whether they want to participate or not. I could imagine that this will create a lot of opposition by others, unfriendly behavior towards the wearer and maybe people masquerading in public to not be trackable?
How do you get everybody's agreement before you start to record everything anywhere?
Simply being in public means you have given permission from many court decisions. Chances are far less a geek with glasses will capture your face vs the many private and government cameras that everyone moves by everyday. With facial recognition on both. Then there is the bluetooth Wideband tracking and 3D WiFi tracking that gets integrated.

I really wanted this on the Holbrooks, not on these awful frames. Pass. I'll go back to considering the Ray Bans.

I hate Facebook (sorry "Meta") probably more than most people and will never use any of their products but gotta hand it to them. They are doing a good job with these glasses. They are about the only Facebook product I think is good (even if they are still a privacy nightmare). They are a huge win for the blind community and give more independence to disabled people.. not just blind people.

Also, Apple should be embarrassed. Apple fans got a clunky $3,500 headset instead lmao.

But hey I guess Apple are "always late on purpose" right? They do it "right" eventually... when are we gonna get Apple specs?
That is an amazing video, thank you.

worked in retail for a couple of months during the holidays... someone came in wearing these and was recording our interaction, super annoying. I wouldn't be surprised if companies start banning these on their property eventually. Imagine wearing them while getting a medical procedure done.

Just realized Ray-Ban and Oakley are owned by the same parent company. I was going to compliment Meta signing deals with different companies, thinking maybe they were trying to lock Apple, Google, etc. out of making a similar product. Is there another trendy sunglasses brand that is independent?
Not many. I think these guys own most of the brands: https://www.essilorluxottica.com

No- some of us actually respect others privacy when it comes to random picture or video and audio recording

(unless I misunderstood you post)

I wonder if these come with an insurance in case you get punched in da face for wearing them in public and thus infringing on others privacy?

I remember when the first ones of these glasses came out for testing, some people in my country called the wearers "glassholes" because they felt, being recored and filmed by strangers would violate their own privacy rights. I am aware that some people voluntarily install networked microphones in their apartments so there is a big variety of what privacy is and should be between people. But it would be good to think about this before rolling it out globally, including the different legal systems and national mentalities.

Yeah, quite creepy. The white ones at least let you see the camera holes. The black ones, not so much. You can be recorded as you speak without noticing it.
It's easier to notice Meta glasses recording vs mobile phone.

I want smart glasses without video recording capabilities - give me information about what I am looking at (menus, history of a building, directions) summaries of messages, translations, calendar notifications. I want info about business contacts - when we last met, names (I am bad with names) and more personal info for contacts I tag like that. I don't want yet another way to record dumb crap for "influencers" to share.

Yeah if anyone I know starts wearing smart glasses with a camera pointed at my face the entire time during convos and private moments, I’ll just stop hanging out with them.

Smartphones have already ruined us with doomscrolling, social media, short form videos, and countless other ways to keep us addicted and disengaged from the real world while seriously harming our mental health. Now imagine that but jacked up to 100 with smart glasses taking over your vision 24/7 and a camera always running.

Nope, I’m checking out.
this is by all means inevitable and it will come for you too. Not in the current form and shape as sunglasses, but in probably stylish and normal looking glasses - sooner than later. And it will be driven by a generation you are already disconnecting from.

Unless these have a wind speed sensor that golf sene was pretty lame. Likely using generalized weather app data from a connected phone.

And "hooping" in sunglasses? Maybe with cheapos but they're gonna get flung off of someone's sweaty face and crushed by one of the 20 feet stomping around in the vacinity. Then that someone is gonna take their ball and go home sobbing lol.

I hope these don't catch on. It's a classic "we're out of ideas" product.

In my country you need to install signs whenever you film people like in trains or buses. If you install private cameras, say doorbell cameras, they are legally not allowed to point to other houses and record what is going on there.

Without being a legal expert I'd fear this filming of other people without their knowledge and permit will open a can of worms. At least legally, but some might even feel practically offended or even attacked and react accordingly. (not promoting this in any way, just trying to think before)

To me this looks like a huge data mining effort, a bit like you share other peoples private mobile phone numbers on your device when you join certain social media sites.

With video recording glasses like these, the government should enforce written consent to record people otherwise its a crime and you should face jail time.

Ready to jump down the glasses rabbit hole? Take 5 mins and watch this

I don't get why a simple piece of plastic is a monopoly. Seems like very easy to replicate. The chinese can spin 10 new brands within 6 months.

I thought the video was pretty clear on that. But moreover people just want to buy known brands and are clueless about the quality or inflated prices. Just like you’d have to be clueless about privacy when buying Zucks wearable remote eyes and ears.
