Well I bought the new iphone 3G S (Black 32GB) on launch day, my first iphone, second apple product (16 gb ipod touch) and have to say VERY impressed. I get great speeds on data, both wifi and 3G, voice quality is good, video is awesome, and phone in general is very good.

I come from having the Blackberry Storm (still have it) and there are a few features that if the iphone had them, i don't know if any other phone could/would survive. Here is what I would like to see from the iphone:

    1-Nofication LED light

Blackberries have these, and they are VERY handy, very user friendly, and something that I feel apple could include and would be well received. I have my blackberry storm customized to different colors for different kinds of notifications which is great when i have it on vibrate or silent.

    2-Enhanced Email/Push notification

Blackberries email is unsurpassed. Probably the main reason I keep the blackberry, the email is instant, no workarounds needed, and easily customized.

    3-Central Notification System

On my Storm, I get all my messages, text, email, msn, to a central folder which is easy to respond to, delete, etc. Extremely handy.

    4-Multitasking

Another great feature of my Blackberry. Handy to be able to do several things at once.

    5-Swappable Battery

Don't see this happening, probably never will, but would be an addition that would also make the apple more appealing. It's the main reason I purchased the Storm over the iphone 3G at the time.

    6-MSN application

Why is there no actual MSN application for the iphone? I know there ones that work (I have beejive and IM+) but a dedicated application would be something that would be really nice to have.

I think 1-4 are pretty doable, and 5 and 6, probably more iffy, but if they took the few pros of the Blackberry and incorporated them into the iphone, I think it would be a juggernaut (more then it is now) that would be unstoppable in continued sales.

I love the app store, the safari browser is beautiful to use (destroys anything on the Storm for sure), the iphone 3GS is FAST!, and it doesn't freeze, haven't had a single issue, and overall has been an awesome phone. If the few missing pieces were put into the phone, I would never even look at anything else.

    Just a few thoughts.

    :)

you are 100% correct with all your observations. Unfortunatly it will never happen because well apple does what they want and not what the user asks for...

A gentle glowing light (like the sleep indicator on a macbook), indicating when you have some new messages or emails, would be pretty sweet.

I think we all would agree completely, I especially agree with the notification LED, to just have it behind the glass, opposite of the proximity/ambient light sensors would be awesome.

Don't listen to the douches that will say "Well then keep your Storm", they just can't think outside of the box. These are valid claims and hopefully Apple does something in the future about it, make sure to submit this to Apple so they see it.

All of these things have been said a million times before, and chances are most will never happen. The iPhone is not a blackberry. If you want a blackberry then get one, the iPhone and Blackberry are for two different groups.

lol @ the guy above me

Well, to be fair, I think most of that stuff will likely be introduced eventually.

If the exception of the battery cover, natch.

why would you want all your emails, missed calls, text messages, etc. sent to one folder? I want all of those kept separate. and the iPhone has pretty quick email and push notifications. and the blackberry's little red light is just annoying

I seriously doubt we will ever see any type of colored LED light on any iPhone

Instead of posting this thread you should have sent this post to apple's feedback.

Didn't Apple get a ton of complaints about the glowing 'sleeping' light on the iMac G5? (Probably mostly from college students in dorm rooms, I would guess.) They eventually added a light sensor to turn it off in the dark.

Obviously an iPhone LED wouldn't be as bright, but I can see how they'd be nervous about adding a feature that's similar to one their users forced them to remove on their computers!

I'm not so sure about that. As a stock holder I'm very happy with Apple.

Totally agreed with OP. Also iPhone needs "DELETE ALL" emails in inbox too!

Someone please explain to me the complaints in the lack of push email? My work exchange account gets pushed, my SBC/Yahoo home account is pushed. I receive my email with no delays. Only my Gmail account is fetched which is set for every 30 minutes.

So I don't understand why people say the push mail option on the iphone is lacking.

As an aside, my Tilt had an LED and eventually I hated it. It was very bright (in a dark room, obviously), and it blinked every 10 seconds or so. I like the lack of an LED on the iphone. I suppose if there was one and it was quite subdued, that might be ok.

I believe that it was just a design change in the iMac G5 that got rid of the pulsating light, not complaints. All MacBooks come with this, actually I just got a brand new Unibody MBP and it has it as well. It only does it when the machine is in sleep mode, if you shutdown completely it won't blink.

any phone that comes with an LED also comes with options to control it. If it annoys you, turn it off. Personally, it's one feature I love about my BlackBerry, and the iPhone would be well served to adopt it (how cool would a glowing ring around the earpiece be?)

Replaceable battery, ughhh!!!! That's what I like about the iPhone it's different the all the other phones. Have you seen the videos on YouTube of the iclones. Not really attractive trying to remove the back part to remove battery. Now a light indicator, blue, would be nice inside te ear speaker.

Every person's must-have feature would be another's pet peeve. This is why we let Steve Jobs decide for us. ;)

The only thing I think I would've liked on top of a status indicator would be a matte screen.

Brought an anti-glare (Matte) screen protector from the Apple store and I feel it is a lot better. No sticyness when fingers are clamy, no sun reflection. Its really smooth and really nice.

    i have a BB Curve and a 3GS

    1. don't care about it
    2. see #1. if i get an email 5 minutes later it's not a big deal
    3. very nice and i still check all my email on my Curve a lot of times because it's faster. but i usually end up replying from my iphone even for work email
    4. you can multi-task using apple apps like listening to the ipod and surfing the internet or reading one of the newspaper apps. or talking on the phone and surfing. my Curve is from Sprint and it won't let you talk on the phone and surf. it won't even receive emails while talking on the phone.
    5. don't care. by the time the battery goes just buy a new phone
    6. shocked that someone still uses a live id for something other than technet or msdn
