The Feb 2011 MBP release came with one of the most significant speed increases we've seen in these laptops yet some still aren't sure it's good enough...

X2.

Going from 2 cores to 4 cores is a leap. Going from 4 cores to 4 cores is a step.

IMO we haven't seen a jump like this since the Core architecture. If you want a gaming machine, getting a desktop would provide both better performance and costs. Furthermore, the graphics cards you can get in desktops often vary more and offer more 'extreme' capability. As far as laptops go, if the current MBP isn't going to cut it, you are not going to find a laptop that does IMO.

Looking at things objectively it is almost certain that new ones are coming this fall.

The only thing that might stop it would be this terrible tragedy in Japan and problems with getting parts. This some people might know better, being familiar how dependent macbook pro is on parts from Japan.

Looking here you see than there was never a longer period than 10 months and never a longer period of 12 months for any product since 2002. Also if you look, a refresh in January/February is always followed by refresh in October/November.

Having in mind the outdated cooling system, and the change in iPad 2 curves, a redesign is very probable. In case the Apples engineers can't come up with an internal solution to the cooling issues, or if intel magically reduces the heating in the new line, I would expect newly designed macbook pros this November, just in line for the 2011 holiday season.

Still, I like my 2011 13" MBP, even if it does get unnecessarily pretty loud sometimes.
