I'm not an Apple Music subscriber, but I did do the three month trial when it first launched and then decided not to keep up with it at the time since iTunes Match at $25/yr suited my needs better.

I bought a second HomePod yesterday (not sure if that's relevant), but I did notice that the Apple Music subscription prompt says that it renews at at $4.99/month.

Anyone know what's up with that or why I'm getting offered that price?

  • I'm not a student, and haven't been for 15 years
  • I know HomePods come with a three month trial, but this doesn't seem to be that, and I already used my trial back in summer 2015
  • I do subscribe to iTunes Match at $25/yr but this supersedes that and shouldn't result in a $4.99/month offer right?
  • This is cheaper than the $99/yr annual subscription
Anyone know what's up with this offer? It'd be cool if some glitch gets me Apple Music for $4.99/month

No idea. However if it is being offered at 4.99 and it allows you to complete the sign up at that price, by all means go for it. Worst case scenario is either you’re not allowed to complete sign up at that price, or it does and the ‘error’ is corrected back to 9.99 at some future date.

Between various student, mobile/cellular carrier and trial offers, you might have inadvertently got caught up in one. If it lets you complete at 4.99, its not as though you’ve been dishonest in any way to get the offer.

Having got the Beatles stereo digital boxset for £8.99 GBP last year due to a pricing error on the iTunes Store, I’d strike whilst the iron is hot.
