been getting this odd chime that I haven't heard used for anything else on the watch and I get it at random times. Thing is there isn't anything on the watch in a form of notification or call or text or whatever. Just a random chime for no reason. happened today at 9:22 so it isn't like an hourly thing. BTW it is a shingle chime with no interaction required and as fast as I can look at my wrist I can tell you there is no notification.

Anyone else get this or at least know what it is

I know that calendar notifications are a different sound than the normal notification sound. Is that it maybe?

Just found this thread when I was googling this issue. It's been driving me crazy and you're the first person I've found to have experienced exactly what happens on mine. It's been getting annoying because I keep my watch on silent and it still chimes at the worst moments like in class or church.

Have not had it happen in weeks. Not sure if it is software related (check your software in the app on your phone) or if it was just a weird time for the Awatch. Anyway, hopefully it is fixed.

Happened to me today. Exactly as you describe. My watch was on silent (as it always is). It was strange audio alert including haptics.

This has happened once or twice before, but I've just ignored it.

EDIT: Similar thread over here: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/strange-noise-vibration-from-watch.2035239/

Figured it out. Apple Pay was triggered.

After a minute, it closes by itself and makes a noise+haptic.

If this is really the reason, and totally sounds like it is, then it would explain why I don't get it happening hardly ever with the link bracelet on because it slides a bit when I bend my wrist back. The sport bands and leather bands I have don't have the save give so I suppose it is possible to double click the small button.

Though, while typing this I could swear that I remember it happening with the link bracelet and while simply driving straight down the road....Hmmmm

I get ghost haptics occasionally as well. I don't know if there's a sound associated because I'm hard of hearing and keep the sound turned off. I can't hear soft/high-pitch tones.

It's possible that Pay is getting triggered, though I don't think the Watch can sense the proximity of an NFC terminal the way the phone can.

Though the "ghost" haptic feels weaker than the standard ones, so it's possible it's my imagination, or maybe it's this same issue.

This happens to me all the time, but only since watchOS 3. I think you folks are partially right about it being Apple Pay being triggered. It definitely has something to do with the side button being pushed. Occasionally when I hear this chime and look down, my watch will be on the Turn Off/SOS screen. However, I can't deliberately trigger this no matter what I try... strange.

Glad I found this old thread. I’ve been plagued with this weird chime for the last couple of days. A brief, rising chime happening at random times during the day, but with no alerts or notifications on either Watch or iPhone X. Apple Watch 2, watchOS 4.2. No associated haptic, and I’m not triggering Pay as screen remains on watch face.

I have been getting a two tone alert with accompanying haptic tap for a while now. No notification, just the tones and the tap. I contacted Apple Support a couple of weeks ago and they suggested that I try deleting Audible because I recalled installing it around the time the random alerts started happening. That actually worked for several days but now the problem has returned with a vengeance. The alert happens most often about a minute after the quarter hour but it also happens randomly. I'm inclined to delete all the apps that aren't burned in and install them again one at a time but who actually has time for that?

I get the same only maybe once a month. Weird notification sound and before I can look at my watch face it is over.

Thinking it is just a software glitch. What get me is the sound it makes which is not one of the notification sounds available.

In addition, my watch has now started to send occasional alerts while it’s charging and while do not disturb is on. Woke me up this morning.

I have this same problem. I get a 2-tone alert sound (first tone higher pitch than the second), but when I look at my watch there are no notifications and nothing has happened.

It's not the apple pay "time out" noise - it's completely different than that. It happens at random times.

Have you found any solution?
