While working today. A family member of mine hit some sort of key combo....they do not remember, but ctrl was involved.... now when the mouse is moved, the entire "screen" moves on the monitor instead of the pointer. Anyone know what I am talking about and how to resolve it without resorting to a reboot.

Sounds like the scroll-zoom feature.

Holding down ctrl while scrolling (trackpad or mouse) will zoom the screen in/out. They should be able to go back to 100% by scrolling the other way (towards you). The feature can be disabled in the Keyboad & Mouse preference ("Zoom while holding:")
