I got a used early 2008 MBP last week and coming from my MB I did the "Restore from Time Machine backup" option. The MBP boots up fine, haven't noticed any issues at all as far as running apps, etc.
However, I am having a very weird problem with System Preferences. I went into the Keyboard & Mouse prefs and tried out the "use tap as click" option. Tried it for a bit, didn't like it, so I went back to change it. Next thing I know the MBP is hanging on the "Loading Keyboard & Mouse..." When I click the icon to change the prefs it just sits there but I am able to do other tasks. The only way out is either to quit System Preferences by right clicking or typing in the search box within Sys Prefs and then I am able to choose the Keyboard & Mouse prefs. I've narrowed it down to the Trackpad tab. If I leave it on the other tabs and close out, I can go back into the System Prefs and it won't freeze. I tried running OnyX to see if it found anything and it prompted me that my startup disk needed repair. I ran Disk Utility via the install DVD and it showed everything being fine. I am lost.
My only hope (and thought) is that using the Time Machine backup from my MB didn't allow for the trackpad drivers for the MBP to get installed. I am going to test this by first running the 10.5.5 combo update again, making a backup of the MBP in its current state and then doing an erase and install of Leopard. Beyond that I'm stumped. I really can't figure out the disk repair issue, everything is showing up fine in the diagnostic tools.
Anyone else out there remotely know what I'm going through or had the experience?
