Odd iTunes problem

My girlfriend is trying to listen to her music(not purchased music) and it sounds like it keeps skipping like someone keeps hitting play/pause. Now i played the same songs in windows media player and they sound crystal clear. This a gateway laptop running WinXPSP2. iTunes version is 5.0.1.
