I have attached a touch screen as the sole monitor for a Mac mini M4 (26.4) and touch is working, sorta.

If I touch the screen the pointer moves about 3 inches away from the touch point and then moves in random directions. It randomly will actually work when I touch an icon in app or on screen and then other times it will not and does the thing written above, jumps to a point about 3 inches away and them random up/dwon left/right movements when I try to move the finger across the screen.

So it is recognising the touch input, it is just interpreting it weirdly.

Any fixes or workarounds? Is it a know issue?

MacOS doesn't natively support touch screens. This would be an issue with the display or its drivers/software, which we have no information about.

ok cool, I'll see if I can find pout from the maker. Windows 11 supports touch pretty fully, but MacOS doesn't...not a criticism just saying 🙂 I think things like UPPD might help.
