OK, so I know that you can boot a Mac as an external firewire drive to another machine. I'm wondering, can you boot to its optical drive and basically treat it as an external CD-ROM? I need to do this because the iMac Snow I bought was damaged in shipping and the CD drive doesn't work anymore. I have a plain external CD-RW but it's USB and will probably be horribly slow for loading software. Anyone know if I can use my 12" PB as an external CD-ROM so I can install the OS on my iMac?

Thanks!! I hugely appreciate the tip. This is the coolest thing ever, I think I'm going to name my first child Firewire Target Disk Mode.
