Expected to be done the second half of the year. Of course that doesn't imply that to will take off. I haven't heard much on it outside of the basic screen shots and what I have read off of Microsoft's website. Thats a real small percentage.

I don't have access to servers, but I can probably answer questions about OWA, and post screenshots.

it probably has a component that allows users to work with it on a web.

But its core will still be local based. Its impossible to migrate all office's functions to a web service. Don't dream too much and lose the grasp of reality.

Of course, but since some had noted that nothing was said about Mac compatibility and Nadyne commented that she has used it, it seems logical that anything she (or anyone in the MacBU) who uses it would provide more information than the “official” releases.

I can't say anything more than what we've already announced. Decisions about what we announce and when we announce it happen at a much higher level than me. :) So right now, I can say that I've used the web apps myself in Safari, but I can't go into any kind of details yet.

Regards,
Nadyne.

Thanks for the offer. If I have any questions I will ask, but as of right now, we aren't testing it here at work, we don't plan on testing it, and I have no infrastructure to test it myself at home so its a dead end for now.

That's my big thought. Many of the copre components of Office are Windows based - you can't solve cross platform probelms y just hosing it on the web. My understanding is that Windows Office is tied very heavily and depends greatly on Microsoft code that just doesn't exist on other platforms without some kind of emulation or solution like Citrix. This is why the free version only has the basic applications (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint). which does exist on the Mac. I haven;t heard of how MS is going to address Sharepoint or OneNote which is Windows only at the moment... No doubt though, this is not going to replace Office by any stretch. MS is not going to do that..

That makes sense - at the end of the day the MBU does answer to Microsoft corporate and at this stage it make sense that they are pimping its feature set for Windows and not it's competitors
