I have updated from Leopard to Lion.

As a result, I couldn't open old Word Documents (.doc).

So I reinstalled Office version 2011, which seems to have fixed the problem.

Now I cannot update Office. If I run "Software Update" I am told that all software is "up to date".

If I go to Microsoft's home page and try to download SP 14.0.1 and 14.0.2 Service Packs I am told that there is a critical element missing and the updates cannot be installed on my hard disk.

I have also re-installed the Microsoft AutoUpdate but to no avail.

Any clues?
😕

I successfully installed Office 2011 on Lion and all the four updates 1401, 1402, 1410, and 1412. I first downloaded the updates to my disk and then installed them in the order given.

I suggest that you reinstall Office 2011 and then all the updates in the proper order.

That is exactly what I did. Installed Office again, downloaded the Service Packs, but cannot get them on to my hard disk as "critical software is missing"

Are you running Office under Bootcamp, or do you have the Mac version?

It is the Mac version.
