Seriously. It’s a one-time thing. Many people wouldn’t even notice it. And if they are installing office on their new mac instead of copying from another machine, the translation happens when it is installed not when first run.
I'm waiting for my M1 base MBA and wondering whether there's a way to directly download the Office universal beta (I'm already a Fast Insider and have 16.44 running on my Intel MBA) instead of having to download current release version, do Rosetta launch, select Fast Insider from within apps, and then download universal beta

I installed the current version on my 12" MacBook and then used Migration Assistant to transfer everything over to the M1 MacBook Air, and it seemed to install the correct version since Activity Monitor reports that it is "Apple" not "Intel" architecture. Interestingly, it seems that the Microsoft Autoupdate utility is still Intel code.
