Just updated Office and it looks like all apps are M1 native now:

In general, I have been using it and the apps are generally great, but there are some minor caveats. I got the below message when clicking on "connections" in excel (to determine what external links the workbook has). Also, for example, the one drive clients are also still intel based.

(sorry, I don't know how to size the image... I know it's giant...)

ooh, good to know.

I didn't spend too much time with them, but the tasks I did ran super fast. Loaded a graphic heavy presentation in Powerpoint and everything was instantaneous.

It may have been different between the Office 365 subscription versions and the regular “whatever” version of office. I find Microsoft’s product differentiation confusing.

Onedrive and teams aren't, last I checked, which is a bummer.

But yeah, the core office suite has been for a while now.

sorry to revive this thread but didn't want to start a separate as this is a straight M1 Office question - I have the base model MBA M1 with 8GB RAM and it takes around 10 seconds to open Word or Excel app. I am wondering whether this is a memory issue or a bandwidth issue as friend MBP with 32GB has these apps up and running in an instant.

Does anyone with a 16GB MBA has the same issue or would this solve my problem. MBA is my daily workhorse mostly using MS Office apps, I am using LR and other apps as a hobby though so I am considering MBP but if M2 Air with 16GB would solve this for me that would be great too...

thank you!

I have a 14" MacBookPro - 16GB memory. Launching Word from cold takes less than two seconds.

However, I suspect that the time depends also on what else was using memory when Word is launched. It might take longer to free up the required memory than it does to actually launch Word. But I had already used Word and simply closed then quit.

Launching Excel (which had not been used since the last restart of the machine) took towards 7 seconds.

Each of them is using about 130 MB according to Activity Monitor a few minutes after launch - no documents open.

Mine does! It was an important factor for me as when I first subscribed I was mainly Windows and partner mainly macOS. Now we are both mainly macOS.
