I always found it great how fast iWork programs boot up on my Macbook Pro... Is Office for Mac 2011 on par with the iWork programs?

For me, it has been even faster than iWork. Word opens after 1-2 bounces while Pages takes ~5 bounces to open.

Awesome! Word currently takes around 8 bounces for me... What processor are you using?

Are you using the newest iWork? I got pages 09 and it start in one bounce on a 2.26Ghz MBP 13" the a stock 5400rpm hdd

April 2010 MBP - Base model

Word - 1 Bounce
Pages - 2 Bounces

But Pages has a lag where it opens but the document/canvas or whatever you call it takes a second ro so while with Word it's instant!

I'd also like to chime in. I just downloaded Office 2011 and I'm amazed at the speed!!

Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Outlook all bootup fast than their Apple counterparts (Pages, Numbers, Keynote, Apple Mail). The boot time for all these applications requires 1 or less dock bounces on my SSD with MBP specs listed in my signature below.

And the best part is there is absolutely no lag while using these apps like there was with Office 2008. I read that there was a huge improvement and I'm happy to say that the rumors are true.

The lack of performance in Excel/Powerpoint for Office 2008 had me considering switching to a Windows machine for work purposes. However, Office 2011 has remedied this issue and erased all thoughts of switching over to Windows.😀

If you get the "Optimizing Font Performance" thing, go to Font Book and Resolve the Duplicate Fonts issue (should be in the Edit Menu I think) - that made Office 2011 even faster for me!

I think ppl LOVE to confuse COLD startup and a WARM one.

Guess what - Word 2008 even started in 2 bounces as soon as it’s been cached into the system.

What you want to have here is a COLD boot comparison. You’d have to restart the system and then compare the speed.

For me Word 2011 is a huge improvement on a cold start. 10 seconds compared to 15-18 with Word 2008. Almost as fast as the venerable Word 2004 which still does everything Word 2011 does.
