For me, the 2008 Microsoft Word start-up takes way longer. 2004 was almost instant for Word.
However, once its open, the look and responsiveness are worth the wait.

Having been playing with it today, a few things come to mind:
1. It's better than Office:Mac 2004
2. It's WAY better than Office 2007 in a number of areas
3. It faster than I expected it to be and very Mac-like
4. Entourage still blows...
5. It's rather buggy (nuthin' new there, then).

It's a step in the right direction, but still a tad underwhelming considering the vastly OTT price. If I wasn't working in a corporate environment, I'd stick with iWork, but Pages and Numbers really ain't compatible enough with Win Office for my purposes.

I'll admit, however, that I'm still quite happy to use NeoOffice (which has been my standard office suite at work for some years now and allows me to exchange documents with Windows users without a single problem in all that time), despite the slow launch and the less than elegant interface. I'm going to reserve judgement for now, though, as Lotus Symphony is just around the corner and might be the compromise I'm looking for - improved interface, improved speed (allegedly) and still running that OpenOffice core.

So, Office 2008? Another 'almost' good product from Microsoft. At that price I think I'll pass...

I think it is an extremely good Office product when compared to the previews Offices. However, its price is just too high!

I must admit, though, MS has done a pretty good job this time.

well, if you have 3 macs, then the price is quite low...... $130 for 3 licenses!:)

Aren't most new softwares buggy?

As good as Leopard is & I think it's way better than Vista & XP, it had bugs. Mail was dreadful, no sounds & all. So I think people are being a little unfair judging Office 2008 so soon.

I know it take's sometime to load, but what's the rush? I had Office 2004 & used Entourage instead of Mac mail & loved it. Mail seemed as though it was missing that something that made it cool. Ok so it's my opinion, but I bought Office 2008 & admit it's a little buggy & they should be ironed out in time. But I love it so far. Entourage is a winner in my book, far better than Mail.

Would I go back to 2004?...No

I tried Pages, Keynote & Numbers but I'm sorry to say I couldn't wait to get back to Office 2004, Now Office 2008.

I'd recommend it any day & I hate Office 2007 for PC. I much prefer Office 2003.

Thanks For Looking & hope I haven't offended anyone.

I like Office 2008 but I still like iWork better just because I'm used to it. Usually I only use Office when I need to share my documents but it's nice that it has improved, it's much more enjoyable to use now.

It was fine in terms of performance (loading was a little slow but once it started it was MUCH faster) and UI. However, I've had to remove it and will stay with 2004 for the time being. The removal of custom error bars in charting is a MASSIVE deal breaker for me. I simply can't live without that feature.

Woah, that is a dealbreaker. I hadn't realised they had removed that. It now makes Excel completely useless for me. All my work requires custom errors bars. Bye bye buying 2008.
