OFFICIAL: 2.0 July 11th.

itunes 7.7 is up???

No. But rumors say sometime tonight with MobileMe. AppStore rumored for tomorrow morning.

remember back last october, apple said february, then it was pushed to march, then it was pushed to june, and now july. wow

No, Apple said it would produce an SDK (not support for 3rd party applications, two different things, my friend) and it was moved back from February to March, where they announced the AppStore for late-June, which has been pushed back to mid-July.

Not huge delays, in my opinion.

here's something to think about,

It isn't hard to assume that MobileMe and iTunes 7.7 will be up tonight or this morning rather since THEY ALLOTED A WINDOW OF TIME TO DO SO. Sure, lets think about what you said, would it reallymake way more sense for them to delay MobileMe, iTunes 7.7, 2.0 and the App Store a few months when apple has official said they are releasing it tonight AND they are in the process in doing so right now as we speak (http://gizmodo.com/5023657/mac-down-for-mobileme-transition)? Oh and not to mention my earlier post about NZ requiring all of these services within a few hours?wow

So it's safe to say that if 2.0 is released on July 11th, that'd be in New Zealand time seeing as though they're the first to get the iPhone. If that's the case, Australia can still be expecting it early tomorrow morning.

yay aussies.

Did that time frame officially change from 6PM - 12AM to 8PM - 2AM?
I'm on the east coast - down to stay up til 3 to see if anything happens but if it's 5 I'm out.

I have a feeling whichever time it is, they are going to wait until the absolute last minute (probably longer) to do anything that WE will see.

I'm still pissed at that Maxime Veron dude who told us about 12 hours ago that we'd see 7.7 "in a few hours".....pfft.

Yup it was delayed to 8PM Wednesday - 2AM Thursday PDT for MobileMe

I am pissed as well. I want iTunes 7.7, and when it launches (once MobileMe is completed, 5AM EST Today) I want there to be App Store, and 2.0 Software!

Hey so check it...this probably isnt accurate at all but thought I'd toss it out there.

http://www.usatoday.com/money/industries/technology/2008-07-09-apple-apps-store-iphone-ipod_N.htm states that:
"Apple launches its 500-application, Web-based App Store on Thursday night. With it, iPhone and iPod Touch users can add enhance their devices."

That article is really confusing! It's hard whether to tell if Steve confirmed a Thursday release, or if that's just USA Today's prediction. I'm hoping for the former!! :p

My point was that suggesting a delay of few months is completely illogical at this point and thus warrants no importance when discussing whether it proves we will see these updates soon. Plus if you go to the thread discussing the time change some of the ideas make complete sense to the time change; 6pm after all is pretty early when people in the midwest and east coast were able to go until 8 or 9 pm. So they change it to 8pm to give everyone enough time to get things done.

Oh i totally gotcha...I wasnt arguing your point or anything - I was just wondering if that time delay was for sure.

New York Times says same thing:

When Apple opens its online App Store for iPhone software on Thursday, Steven P. Jobs will be making an attempt to dominate the next generation of computing as it moves toward Internet-connected mobile devices.

There seem to be quite a few conflicting dates on this issue but I think we'll get it Friday. Ohhhhh well...

Now it's looking like Thursday:

"Steve Jobs told USA Today that the Apple App Store will launch with "more than 500" applications Thursday night for the iPhone and iPod touch."
http://www.engadget.com/2008/07/10/jobs-app-store-launching-with-500-iphone-applications-25-free/

"Steve Jobs gave the NYT a bunch of details on the upcoming iPhone App Store. It's opening Thursday with "more than 500 software..."
http://gizmodo.com/5023672/iphone-app-store-launch-details

"Jobs reveals that 500 applications will be launching on Thursday and that it is "the biggest launch" of his career."
https://www.macrumors.com/2008/07/10/app-store-launch-500-apps-25-free/

"With 500 programs launching internationally Thursday night, "This is the biggest launch of my career," says Jobs."

So now it looks like 2AM PDT launch of MobileMe/iTunes 7.7/App Store/ 2.0, all of these things will be needed for New Zealand iPhone 3G purchasers who will have access to buy an iPhone at 5AM PDT today. It all makes sense, I think Apple's dates are just "available by date" kind of dates.

Several of the papers citing interviews with Jobs. I think Jobs actually told them Thursday.

EXACTLY, all the evidence points to it and now SJ says it. However, i highly doubt it will be thursday evening because that would be cruel to deprive those NZ people of the App Store until then. Especially when the App Store is a crucial element to 2.0 and the iPhone 3g itself. I am still betting on 9am PST or 4 hours after launch of the iphone 3g in NZ. I see this as a good time because it gives those apple employees some rest if they do in fact have to stay up until 2am PST this morning. Plus it avoids some major headaches for Apple to distribute MobileMe, iTunes 7.7, 2.0 and the App Store all at once, this way they can break it up while not depriving NZ people for too long.

I'm seeing a 2AM PDT (remember, daylight time) because that is when they are launching MobileMe and iTunes 7.7, which will most likely include the App Store and the firmware will be available.

Heh, yeah, forgot the PDT because it is summer time when i was writing the post, but was too lazy to change it.

Eh, i see what you are saying, but that seems like a big load for Apple to distribute. What you are saying makes sense, everything should be up and running before the first iphones are sold if not right when they are being sold.
A compromise between our two ideas, which seems pretty logical, is that they release 2.0 at 2AM because it is essential for iTunes 7.7 and MobileMe, but maybe hold off on the App Store to finalize some things perhaps? I am not sure. Then again, i am sure Apple can handle these loads when they have 400+MB updates for leopard. I hope your idea is true because i want to start scanning through and downloading apps before i get mine so i get sync it and go brag to my friends, HA.
I guess we will see in 2 more hours.

This hour and thirty-eight minutes CAN NOT go fast enough.:D (or roughly around then)

Whenever Apple releases 2.0, the App Store WILL be open, it is the main upgrade/ selling point. 99.99% chance that the App Store and 2.0 launch before 8AM EDT because of the New Zealand launch. We shall see! I really want all these apps on my iPod this morning :p
