I don't think Apple is stopping anything. Nvidia could probably release a web driver if they wanted to.

What that probably means is they're going through certification testing. They likely could have done that a week or two ago.

To release at all, they do need to code sign. But kernel extensions aren't code signed through Apple. Once Apple approves you, you can code sign on your own.

Again, I'm pretty sure if Nvidia really wanted to make getting a Mojave update out a top priority they could have done it. And a 24-48 review cycle is a speed bump from Apple. That hardly ads up to Apple blocking the whole process.

Maybe they did send it in a few weeks ago and Apple is stalling them. But I kind of doubt it.

There is no reason NOT to believe that NVIDIA report.

Have heard similar stories from other vendors in the past, including Adobe, Avid, and Blackmagic. Apple does not prioritize other vendors over their own software for a new OS release. This is part of the reason MANY vendors choose to use their own updaters (like Adobe and RedGiant) vs. posting anything to the App Store (which creates delays and additional approval issues). Also part of the reason MANY people suggest waiting 1-2 weeks after an OS release before installing. Some suggest waiting until .2 or .3 to update...

Also worth mentioning - Apple is already working on a security patch for Mojave, which will update the build number. If NVIDIA releases web drivers in the next few days, they could likely be "broken" by the end of the week.

It will be very very rude that Apple refuse Nvidia to provide web driver and not allow their users to utilise CUDA.

FYI:

I have a 4,1 flashed to 5,1 with an XFX Radeon 480 4096 memory card, and despite taking AGES to install from High Sierra, (After two hours, I went to bed, and 6 hours later when I woke up, it was ready to restart...) seems to behave.

Watch this space.

Thanks for all your comments and help. I have appreciated each one. So I jumped in and installed the new Sapphire Nitro+ Radeon RX 590... here are my considerations and tips.

at stock my RX 580 pulled ~150-200w and under-clocked it's lower (under max load)
under light use it's about 30-40w (about 10w/10w 6pins & 10w PCI)

i think istats shows power use but not 100% not used it in years (there are more apps that can do it like HWMonitor)
i use hardware monitor, here's an example of the computer under light use & with LuxMark to stress the GPU
you can see with light use the GPU uses 35-45w and under load it's using about 150w

Since the 6pin on the Nitro+ RX590 is optional. As long as leave it unconnected, and only connect the 8pin. I don't think the card will draw "too much". The ROM should be programmed to limit the card's power draw when the 6pin is not connected.

im still amazed it seems not to be normal to see power use on normal PC mobo's, always fun to see.

iv not seen my rx 580 in osx pull much past 160w~ at 1340mhz in OSX so there is a lot of head room & there rx 590 is meant to use less power at same clocks.
not so shore about windows power use, with a under clock and volt it tells me around 120w for the gpu core so id gess around 160-180w? total for the gpu (i think HWmonitor windows only give me pci power draw not the 6 pins)

Try Furmark if you want to see it pull more than 200W 😀

(This is with the stock PULSE RX580 8GB setting)

Also, here is the power consumption review of the Nitro+ RX590. However, that's with both 6+8 pin connected. So, can't be a reliable reference for the power draw in cMP if we intentionally keep that optional 6pin unconnected.

in windows i have it set to 1300mhz and under volt'ed :3 so not shore how it compares, wish some kind of windows style gpu monitor was on osx.

edit - iv got a cheep dual 6-pin to 8 pin do da with my old mini6pin to 6pin cables and it seems not to balance the load well, gess ill order one of the cables from hongkong to see if it balances the load better.

Before you order another cable, try install the card in slot 2.

What I found is those readings are not 100% accurate.

When the GPU in slot 1, it seems some of the slot power is counted in one of the mini 6pin.

But when you install the GPU in slot 2, hardware monitor will able to show you the true reading.

Like this, the same graphic card on the same cMP.

the little mettle mount points dont seem to correctly line up in slot 1 but my cards used so may have been bent out of shape at some point, any one had this problem ?

I had this problem with my GTX Titan X in the Mac Pro. Could not use all DisplayPort connectors. It seems a design flaw.

Yes, seems like they screwed up(silly pun) if you notice 11:37 on the solution...

You can bend that by hand, it's not that hard, normal force should be enough.

Also, for your info, in my own test, slot 1 has better cooling (open fan card, all HDD bays are occupied).
