Maybe Apple screwed up and accidentally updated the price on the live site a little early. There usually is a price cut on the current model when the new model is introduced, which is rumored to be at WWDC on 6/13.

You do know that literally anyone can order with the educational discount? It's $1,899/$2,299. But it's still cheaper and no tax at places like B&H or Adorama. Either way, still not the best deal at this point.

Did you follow a link from one of the recent ads/emails about getting free Beats with a Mac purchase? If so, that would bring you into the edu store with reduced pricing.
