Who else believes their could be the possibility of two types of iPhone's releasing?

One Standard
Two Higher Grade

or One Low Standard
Two Regular Expected Standard

Just an small inner iDea...

quote me on it, if it happens.

I'll give you credit but only if Steve Job's announces it as the Two Regular Expected Normal Standard Typical Not-Extreme Run-of-the-mill iPhone's along with the One Low Standard Under-Performing iPhone

I was kind of considering this the other day. Honestly, I don't think it will happen, but it would be very cool if there turned out to be an "iPhone Pro" that perhaps had a larger screen (4.3" perhaps, a la the EVO 4G).

After playing around with an EVO this weekend, I'd sure buy an iPhone with a bigger screen. I don't see this happening though, as I just don't see Apple fragmenting the iPhone product line anymore than it already will be with the next iPhone.

Don't forget the tungsten body, ceramic bezel and synthetic sapphire screen. :)

I can dream can't I? I call it Iphone Elite. :)

I do realize a tungsten body wouldn't work well for signal.

$99 iPhone 3GS 16GB
$199 iPhone 4th Generation 16GB

Obviously, I based that on prior history. I don't see a jump to 32GB on the base because I highly doubt 64GB could fit into the 4th gen. Also, the new iPhone will have so much to offer despite its capacity (i.e. Front-facing camera, new design, better battery, and other things we don't know).

Glad to see alot of people didn't see this as far-fetched.

I bet wireless syncing will be present. I know as well as apple knows they will have to put something that puts them ahead of the market.

Premium model must have:

960 x 640 screen
1GHz Cortex A8
PowerVR SGX540
512MB RAM
64GB
5MP/720p camera
802.11 b/g/n
Maybe Bluetooth 3.0

Tell Steve, I won't accept anything less.

Who else believes their could be the possibility of two types of iPhone's releasing?

I don't believe.

All of Apple's marketing and branding efforts have made it clear that they view the iPhone as a single product at any given point in time.

There are 2 exceptions:

1) Smaller drive capacities
and
2) Last year's model for $99

Both of those are compromises done just to get the price cheaper. In other words, if they could only sell the 32 GB 3GS they would, but they have to offer the $199 16 GB and the $99 3G just because they need to hit those price points.

So basically I belive that the $99 and the $199 iPhone are compromises that Apple does begrudgingly.

That means that expanding in the other direction is very unlikely. Someone would have to twist their arm into doing it.

I just don't see it happening. It would be a major change in strategy.

EDIT: (If there was a custom-designed $99 mini-iPhone that was not just last year's model, then I could believe your plan. But the fact that they didn't want to make a brand new "cheap-iPhone" makes it clear that they're not going to go and design a new "expensive-iPhone" either. If they liked that idea they would have done it on both ends. They didn't do it on the cheap end, so there's your answer as to what they think about that.)

We've already seen proof in the code for OS 4. There are references to iPhone 3,1 3,2 and 3,3.

These references never refer to color or storage differences. In the past theses differences have been used for significant changes such as the 3G vs 3Gs.

The iPhone 3,1 is expected to be the 4G or HD or whatever you want to call it.
Who knows what the other 2 will be, but they won't be just different storage or color.

I don't think they will differentiate except by storage size within the new generation. I imagine they might continue to offer the 16GB 3GS for $99. I anticipate the following prices for full subsidy/early upgrade/contract-free:

16 GB 3GS - $99/299/499
16 GB HD - $199/399/599
32 GB HD - $299/499/699

If a 64 GB model is released (which I frankly doubt):

64 GB HD - $399/599/799

$99 iPhone 3GS 16GB
$199 iPhone 4th Generation 16GB

Obviously, I based that on prior history. I don't see a jump to 32GB on the base because I highly doubt 64GB could fit into the 4th gen. Also, the new iPhone will have so much to offer despite its capacity (i.e. Front-facing camera, new design, better battery, and other things we don't know).
but front facing camera, 64gb (either 1 64gb chip or more likely 2 32gb chips)
better camera ect. could all be possible it they made the screen bigg to like 4.2" or something and then that would be amazing

I don't think they will differentiate except by storage size within the new generation.

They haven't done this in the past, why would they do so in the future?

I'm fairly certain the model designations (1,1 1,2 2,1 3,1 3,2 3,3) are used to determine hardware differences (IE: compass added in 3Gs) used by the firmware.

We're talking about the possibility of two types of iPhones in this thread. Choose one.

Really? Because there are 3 model designations, but I guess ignoring history and fact is commonplace around here.
