The new HP LP2465 is excellent...it has S-IPS technology which is the best on the market...it is very affordable compared to alternative 24" IPS monitors at $599...if that is too much money you can look at the Benq FP241VW which is about $500 and is designed specifically for gaming however it uses PVA technology which is generally not considered ideal for gaming. I personally use an Eizo ColorEdge CE240W which is a professional grade display but runs upward of $1.6k...the technology is very similar to what is in the HP I recommended but does not have the configurability of my Eizo.

Another good monitor that I also personally use is the Lenovo ThinkVision L220x...it is the only 22" monitor on the market with a 1920x1200 resolution...I picked up mine from Provantage for about $330 but that was an error and the price is now about $440 which is still a good deal as it is an excellent monitor...I have not played any games on it though and since it uses PVA technology it might lag...but I would still check into it as the picture quality is excellent.

that 24" dell you mentioned is quite good

kinda high res for gaming though..the mbp can't really run a relatively recent game at 1900x1200 at good fps with good settings.

The 24 inchers have 1920x1200 res and the 22 inchers have 1680x1050.
The MBP will really stugggle playing most games in 1920x1200 res so I would get a 22 incher is gaming is what you want

I have the 2407wfp which has been replaced by the 2408. It's an awesome monitor to game on and much better response rate than the Apple 23" (14ms) vs (5ms) so you won't have to worry about ghosting. If you need the 24" go for it, but since you'll be gaming on the penryn, I'd echo what someone else said in suggesting the 22" 1680x1050. Unless.... you plan on buying the new mbp, in which case you could probably play HL2, WoW, CoD4, etc.. at 1920x1200 with no problem.

If I had it to do over, I'd probably get the 22" 1680x1050 to balance optimal work with play. 1920x1200 is great for raw screen real estate and you can really organize windows, etc.. very well but since you have spaces and all that jazz with Leopard, I'd probably go with the 22" because typically 1920x1200 is tough to game on if you want to run anything reasonably current gen. 1680x1050 is still plenty of room and with multiple desktops it definitely shouldn't be a problem. Playing games with a native res of 1680x1050 will definitely add some more gaming longevity to the computer.

Get a 20" or 24" if you want better quality panels, but get a 22" if you want lower response rates (and save some cash). Don't get a 30" because you won't be able to play anything at that resolution and you would be wasting your money.

i've been playing HL-2 (i know, not the most demanding game but) on my 2.5 GHz 22" Samsung panel in bootcamp fine with the Wireless Keyboard and Mouse. If cash is no object than the Apple Wireless keyboarda and mighty mouse work extremely well. It responds just like a wired set (in my opinion)

I really like my Samsung 2493HM. Has DVI, VGA and HDMI and using less than native resolution (1920*1200) in some of my Windows games still looks great.

    Cheers,

oh i had a reason for that 24 inch since my friends told me about the greater resolution in the 24 inchers...

Guess I have to get the 22 inchers..

What is the best one ?

and thanks to all who replied :D
