I will be upgrading from the X to the Pro Max mostly for the bigger screen. I couldn’t convince myself to do so on the XS release as the updates to the camera were not present nor to battery life... but with the new camera and battery improvements on the Max I am very excited to go back to a big phone and also one with such a large battery. I could have gotten the battery replaced in this device and have no doubt it would last about another 2 years if I did so, but would not be happy with the form factor and missing out on true landscape app layouts/readable PDF sizing.

I literally have my son's XR at my desk next to my Max, and I can tell you, there's no noticeable difference in their displays. Maybe darker blacks, but that's about it. Apple makes an outstanding LCD display. I'd assume the iPhone 11 display would follow suit. There's been tests done where people polled couldn't tell which display was LCD and which was AMOLED. If size is a factor, then I'd suggest the Pro, even though the 11 isn't that much bigger. I've said many times, the only reason I have a Max is for the telephoto lens, I was hoping the 11 would have this. That may be another factor in your decision.
Thanks for that “test” as I am going from the XS to the 11 and that was my biggest concern. Now everyone’s eyes and opinions differ but a direct comparison is nice.

Keep your iPhone X for another year, bigger updates are coming in 2020.

Don't downgrade to an iPhone 11, thicker bezels, not as good body, inferior display. The performance improvements are not going to be noticeable.

The 11 Pro will feel almost exactly like your X after a few days. It's actually worse in some ways, noticeably heavier, slightly thicker bezels and larger in every dimension for the same display size. Not worth it.

Do we think the bigger updates will come next year though? Just curious because it seems like the iPhone 11S Pro MAX (what a name...) will probably still be just speed bumps while the 12 would most likely be the next major redesign? (No notch, usb c, etc...). But then again basing design guess’s off Apple’s inconsistent nomenclature probably isn’t smart either...

In your position, just replace your battery

I’m amazed more people aren’t sandbagging on this years release

5G will be pretty well rolled out next year. With 5G iPhones and WiFi 7 it will be a release easily worth getting.

If you have an X then you have a top phone minus the very latest camera improvements

I’ve got a very aged 7+ and 6+ (wife). We both really need new phones.

As much as I want the OLED screen on the pro I simply cannot pay 2k GBP (need 2 phones). Especially when it’s not 5G capable.

I will get the iPhone 11 and keep it 2 years and pick up a 2nd gen 5G phone

I just hope the 11 is worth it as I’m considering just picking up a cheap X or Xs

I’ve got a 64GB X, my battery isn’t great atm and I struggle with 64GB, also hated the Space Grey for the last 12 months, so I’ll either buy a refurbed X 256GB from Apple (£850 roughly but become £400 with the trade in of my X) or I’ll buy a brand new XS 256GB once reduced in price at other retailers both in Silver
O2 are currently doing the X “like new” with PAYG . The handset is unlocked. It’s a lottery what you get . 1st phone I got was not like new , had grade c on the box , 90% battery , loose in the box . Bought another to then send the 1st back and received a brand new one with full warranty. They are £400 for 64gb and £450 for 256gb. I went for 256.

I had an x an upgraded to the 11 some of my thoughts. Straight away I did not even notice the bezels sure they might be there but never ever came to my mind that oh the bezels are way bigger. Also the phone is bigger but that’s fine for me easily manageable plus having a bigger screen is a plus. Camera is a lot better on the 11 a lot better speakers and sound also a lot better. I find it to be a lot faster this thing is super fast compared to my x which was slow at times this thing is never slow at times. Also battery is so much better than my x by far. The screen difference I didn’t really notice the difference sure there is a difference but really nothing to mention about. Also I have it in red and it’s absolutely gorgeous in red by far one of the best colours out of the 11 in my view.

  • reported 4 more hours of battery life (which would be great if confirmed);

There have been many people on here (including myself) that have said they noticed significantly improved battery life after upgrading to the 11 Pro (me from an XS). I love mine.
