There will never be a final thread on this debate, as long as newbies like the OP insist on starting new ones, instead of posting in the ridiculous dozens of existing threads on this topic. The bottom line is some prefer glossy and some prefer matte. Buy what you like and let others buy what they like. You don't have to justify your decisions to others and they don't need to justify their decisions to you. Get over it, already!

I am now more confused than ever....

Buy whatever makes you happy - all these people hung up on what others "perceive" as best aren't necessarily doing themselves a favor.

I'm a Mac and I'm a glossy. Reflections may be there, but they've never bothered me. Ever seen photo prints in the past where you can get them in matte or glossy finish? The glossy photos always have more "pop" to them, and so does the glossy screen.

Matte screen is just plain bland, no bling!

If the matte screen didn't have the cheap looking silver bezel, I'd be all for it. But as it stands now, the glossy screen is the only option that still looks high quality. The silver of the matte is such a tacky-looking afterthought.

I want to order my dream MBP this week and the only thing holding me up is the decision on glossy versus anti-glare. I went to my local Apple store tonight to stare at the 15" hi res anti glare versus the 15" hi res glossy side by side - and after 20 minutes I still didn't have a decision....

The only thing I noticed was that the color accuracy was probably slightly better on the anti-glare but I always use color balancing utilities (with screen sensor) to recalibrate my screens anyway so I was not worried about that.

The glare from the glossy was not bad, even when I tried to make it bad in the store - but, agreed, there was no glare on the anti-glare. However, from certain angles, it just looked like I was looking through my wife's panty hose at the screen.

I made my decision on glossy based on one one observation -

The glossy screen LOOKS like an Apple computer - and I want to buy a computer that is the full Apple / full Mac experience. The anti-glare screen with the silver bezel looks like it could have been swiped off a Dell. If you want to connect with your computer and feel the full Apple experience, I don't see how you do it without the glossy screen.

The iPad has a glossy screen. The iPhone has a glossy screen. Damn it, even my iPod has a glossy screen.

No compromises - go for the glossy....

I like your reasoning but you need to post a pic of the pantyhose so we can confirm your conclusion! ................... ;)

Congrats on the getting the best computer made!

that's where a lot of people disagree. . matte w/ silver bezel looks more subtle and refined, while the glossy just looks flashy and cheap.

Are there any high res glossy for the 15" in store? I thought they only carried the regular glossy and the high res anti-glare.

I had originally bought the regular glossy from amazon, but had to return it due to a defective touchpad. I have now ordered the high res glossy from Macmall but they will ship it late (backordered). It would be easier to just pick it up in-store but i thought it is not being carried in store.

Same question here. Where did the OP find a hi-res glossy 15" in store?

There were two 15' MBPs sitting in front of me at the Freehold Mall Apple Store in central New Jersey. One was AG and one Glossy. I asked both sales attendants waiting on me what the displays were and they confirmed they were both hi res.

Now, the Glossy did not look as spectacular as the AG - so I am kind of wondering if they were fibbing to me...

Or maybe the AG is the real thing....

There are no 15" hi-res glossys around when I was there on the weekend. If the fonts/menu looked smaller on the AG, then the non-AG you saw is the normal screen. ;)

If you look at the prices on the models, the hi-res glossy is not carried in the Apple store.

If you suffer from Migraines, Get the Anti-Glare.

The glossy can cause your eyes to constantly focus between the screen and reflections, which not only causes eye fatigue, but can bring on migraines.

Noob. PowerBooks and MacBook Pro's (Pre-unibody) had silver bezels for many years. But now all of a sudden they look like they were swiped off a Dell? C'mon man, get real.

Gloss may add that sex factor for some but I didn't buy a MBP as a fashion accessory. If you're concentrating on the screen whether it be graphics, text, movie or whatever, I'm sure you're hardly going to be staring at the bezel/border. For me, I went matte only because I find any sharp screen glare or reflections whatsoever really annoying. I'm sure if I had the gloss screen, the novelty for me would wear off and eventually it'll become more of an annoyance impacting my whole user experience but I do see its appeal. Each to their own eh!

If you've been pondering over the two for ages, just put yourself outta the nightmare. Go for it and enjoy!

I want to buy a computer that is the full Apple / full Mac experience.
Sorry but couldn't help myself laughing at the comment. :D

I will miss my glossy screen - only because now I've got a matte one arriving I will no longer have a convenient mirror in my bedroom.

Glossy is embarrassing sometimes. I always felt like I had to justify to fellow passengers my apparently illogical decision to buy a MBP each time they use it to adjust their ties or put on makeup in the reflection when it's sunny. It's kind of like buying a Ferrari Enzo and then finding there's not a single parking space in which it will fit in London; everyone's just standing around whilst you are trying to park thinking "what a c0ck - that'll teach him for buying a fancy car".

If you're buying the MacBook Pro to show off to your friends and make your fellow nerds in the coffee bar jealous, glossy is where it's at. It's "pretty". If you plan to do some serious work on your MacBook Pro, the only reasonable choice is anti-glare. It's more industrial and more serious. And, best of all, you can read the freakin' screen without having to deal with a crap load of glare!

And, BTW, MacBook Pros have had silver bezels around the screens a LOT longer than they've had black ones. The big glowing Apple logo on the back of the lid is plenty to remind everyone that you've got a real Mac, not a POS Dell.

I'll admit, the glossy has one advantage... You can position it to use as a mirror to watch the ladies at another table. This is perfect for shy nerdy types. But anti-glare owning men don't need no stinking mirror. We didn't buy it as a show toy, we bought it to get real work done. If we want to watch the ladies, we'll watch the ladies and the ladies will know we are watching! :)

And if you want both, get

1x Anti-glare MBP for when you are out and about
1x Fancy glossy cinema display for home

Problem solved.

Question

Would you rather look through a window with a glare on it or one with zero glare?

Glossy =glare most of the time. Slight when away from window indoors but still there.

Matte zero glare you just see what is on screen perfectly.

I adore the look of the Glossy, and would snap it up in a heart beat but while deciding which to go for the A-G matte...
It started to grow on me, so I think I'm going with that when I order my 17-inch MBP.

Who knows I might change my mind again tomorrow haha.

As I read more and more people who are enjoying the Matte, this is unlikely.

Like most 13" MBP fans, I was eagerly expecting an anti-glare option but F*ing Apple screwed us. Apple, how do I love you and hate you simultaneously?

With much skepticism I ordered Power Support's anti-glare film. To my surprise it works! I just have a 2 annoying air bubbles on the edge of the bezel. It definitely gets the job done! I took it to the Apple store and compared it to the matte 15" and its the same. I could not tell the difference.

In conclusion...if you are not a photographer and use your MBP to take notes in class, I highly recommend the film. Just make sure to get it right the first time.

There is matte screen protector out there. Why not get the glossy and put the protector on if it becomes a distraction?
