Not that it really matters, it's wasted money, but i would like to know why they even advertising here at all? thy know tht mac loyalists will nvr go w/ anythng less than mac, so why wld thy even thnk abt putting a nap ad on macrumors.com? shows their ignorance

The ads you see are selected from a collection that MacRumors doesn't specify or control site by site, although we may be able to ask that certain categories be excluded. Discussing Napster will most likely produce further Napster ads, since the ads are influenced by the displayed text.

Have a look at the threads and notice the correlation between the ads and what the thread is about...

No mention of Napster. Nosirreee bob, not a single reference to the Napster Music Store at all. I think just seeing Napster at the bottom of this page would make me physically ill. Stupid Napster.

:D

OK, so why is napster being allowed to advertise here?
'Cuz their money is just as green as the next guy's. I've seen adds for everything from MS Office to liquid sodium valves for a nuclear power heat exchanger on this site.

It's what pays for the bandwidth, and I love it!

If an advertiser's ads appear here but are of no interest to Mac users, then they have spent money for the ad placement and gotten no benefit from it. That should be a more serious problem to them (cash out the window) than it is to MacRumors (possible annoyance to members). If advertisers are smart, they will buy ad services that are tuned to target the right markets.

First off they aren't chosen by Macrumors. Second off not EVERYONE here is a mac zealot and has an open mind to use other software. Itunes is great and I use it, but napsters subscription is better for some users.

Also, that has to be the worst spelling I have EVER seen in a post.

If the members here really want to rub salt into the advertiser's wounds, they can click on the ad and browse around a couple of pages of the site. Not only does this get MR money, it also (depending on the advertising package they subscribed to) takes money away from the advertising company.

Banner ads are sold via a 3rd party, so that's why Napster ads appear.

As always, please simply follow ads that genuinely interest you. no need to do anything deceptive.

If you really want to support the site, use the Shop: (Amazon, MacMall etc...) links near the top of each forum page. Purchases made through those links contribute to the site.

Even if they have nothing to do with the site? For example, if I was to click on the amazon uk link at the top of the page and then buy something like a fridge or book would you still get a contribution from Amazon?

Yeah I remember seeing that one and I almost took a picture start a thread about it.

Seriously, that is the funniest ad I have seen on Macrumors yet.

i guess tht my title was misleading, i undrstnd why th whole procees, but it is stll funny to see, the huge napster ad at the TOP, not bttm of th pg in big banner style, its great to see money spent in a bad way bc of lack of good control over ads, thts ok though, more mny to MR.

btw, i type all my notes in clss all day long in my little short hand and using auto correct in Word, all my notes come out perfect, so it is more habit than anything else, plus all my IM buddies do it too

Gaahh! Bought a CD recently from Amazon.com and totally forgot about it :(

Edit: Does the sum you get have any relation to the price of the product I buy or is it a fixed sum?

it's a small percentage of the cost of the product.

It is good for a laugh. It breaks up the tension to see the futility of the marketing machine, advertising to those who will never purchase. Like earlier posts have said, the money is no different, and it pays for bandwidth.
