OK to charge iPad Pro 11" with USB-A to USB-C cable?

Is it OK (i.e. safe for the battery, the charger etc) to charge the new iPad Pro with a USB-A to USB-C cable? For example, this one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01GGKYO1I/ref=twister_B06W568Y6C?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

I have several older chargers that I would like to use, and I also need to connect it to my older pre-USB-C MacBook Pro.

My understanding is that yes, it’s safe, but it will likely charge slower than with the included charger.
