ok total newbie here, need help (sizing a web browser window)

User of windows for a long time, so old habits here.

anyways, I just got my mac mini up and running with Leopard. I have a basic question regarding firefox. I can re-size Safari to fit how I want but when I use FF in full screen it overlaps with no seemingly way to fit to size.

Again, I am NEW and PC handicapped

I'm not sure that I exactly understand your question, but you should be able to adjust the size of your browser window in FF (even in full screen mode) by clicking your mouse in the lower right corner of the window and dragging it however you want the window to be re-sized. Was that your question?
