im confused about those info graphs... are those calories or Calories (=kcal).. An adult use between 1800-2400 kcal (Cal) or 1800000-2400000 cal per day (light work). What i see from those pictures, those numbers are shown as CAL, calories and Calories, so does it mean calories or kilocalories?
 
Something has definitely changed with the way calories are counted since watchOS 5. For the past year or so my move ring goal has been set at 400 calories. I had to go to the gym or at least take a long walk during the day in order to hit it. If I just sat at my desk or on the couch, I didn’t close my move ring (which is how it should be I think).

Since upgrading, I proceeded to go on a 28 day move streak despite only exercising a few times. I have been upping my calorie goal by about 20 cal per week and am now at 490. Still closing my move ring with very little effort even though the exercise ring barely budges unless I actually exercise. Something has definitely changed and it’s making it hard to have confidence in the calorie counts. Either the watch was really shortchanging me before watchOS 5 or it is significantly overcounting calories now. No way my daily calorie burn increased 25% this month without my habits changing.

My Watch usually puts me at about 3-6% higher calorie burn than my Fitbit. It’s not a consistent difference and I haven’t dumped it all into Excel to try to figure out why it isn’t consistent. It could just as easily be the Fitbit’s variance as the watch’s.

The graphs are using the nutrition definition. Hence the capital-C as in Calories.

1 Calorie = 1 kcal = 1,000 cal

What you're seeing is the active energy burn. There's another component the Apple calls Resting Energy which is based on gender, weight, and I think height. I get about 2000 kcal a day. Add about 800 kcal of active energy and I get a total of about 2800.
 
I am surprised how quickly the mov bar err moves on my s4 compared to my old s0, which is stuck on watch os 4

When they use calories, it refers to food calories. When they use kcal, they are taking about energy calories.

Apple should probably use one unit throughout, but they didn't.

In reality, we should blame the food scientist for the confusion to begin with.

I think the algorithms used in wOS5 are a lot more generous than previous wOS versions. Hopefully they'll go back to to older algorithms as that's what I'm used to. Plus I can't really compare my current move data to older move data.

i had to google the term ”food calory” which is Cal (=kcal or kilocalory). So all calories in the app is actually kilocalories nevertheless it is ”cal” or ”Cal” or ”calory” or ”food calory” or ”Calory” or ”kcal” or ”kilocalory” (but in a reality there is 1000x differences between those words and the app should use correct and unified wording.)
