it would look fine, and the graphics card could def handle it.
one thing though, is this card hackable?????

Yeah, I thought about that too. I guess I have to check the site and see if the hack will work.

I am really torn atm, my present iMac lags when i use it, so when these updates came up i thought great improvements in every area and on the whole a much better 20" iMac. I can sell mine for about a grand, with my 10% discount card i can get a new iMac for about £1080.
For £80 extra do u think it is worth the extra HD space/slightly better gfx and slight speed increases over my present iMac?
The main thing for me is the better gfx, i mean the FX5200 is pretty bad and for games gets a bit frustrating.

I think I am going to wait until the Dual Core Dual Power Macs. I want 4 cores at 3Ghz each.

12Ghz of Power

I Think my iBook can hold out until then. Hopefully No Later than Janurary 06.

I would be extremely weary of hacking the iMac's 9600. I'm not exactly sure what the effect of the hack is supposed to be, but if it involves increasing the clock speed (and therefore voltage) of the GPU, this could not be good for what has in the past been a computer that has somewhat sensitive components (e.g. bulging capacitors in Rev. A), not to mention that it will increase the temperature inside the case, which can't be good either. And if you fry the GPU on the iMac, the whole midplane has to be replaced. Just some things to consider. Maybe the hack doesn't even do what I think it might.

I'm torn now. I day ago I was 100% sure I wanted to get the dual 2.0 G5 Powermac, but now the 20" iMac is out with very comparable specs, and a 20" LCD for about the same cost, if not less. Now I've had all-in-ones before, in fact I have only had all-in-ones, but I really wanted the expandability this time, so I can easily add HD or upgrade the video card (i Do a fair bit of work in Motion, FCP, etc.), but the price point of the iMac makes me second guess that. any ideas/suggestions?

i was orignally going to get a powerbook b/c i wanted portability but, i decided that it would be foolish to pass up all the iMacs power for such a cheap price. So i will be purchasing a new iMac by the end of june(my birthday)

well, its sucks that they're not going to be available at the store immediately - i was hoping that they were going to do the same thing they did with the PowerMacs for the Tiger event....

Bleh,

D

iMac screens improved?

Anyone else also notice that the viewing angle for the 20" is now 170 degrees vertical and horizontal and 400:1 contrast ratio?? These are the exact same specs for the 20" cinema display.
I reckon new displays could be introduced this WWDC with improved response time and contrast.

After 15 years of windows, I have switched with today's update.

Imac G5 20" with Studio Pro thrown in!

I've used FCP before on someone else's machine, but this is a whole new deal, brudda.

I'll be waiting on a mini. It looks like the next upgrade cycle will include the Radeon 9600 as standard, and perhaps 512MB RAM? That was my 2 biggest gripes with the mini, as it was introduced.

guys,

be careful. don't order right now. you will be deeply disappointed when i order my 23", 9600XT, 2.2GHz iMac that Steve will announce in June. I mean he will, won't he?

FINALLLYYYYY...

My patience finally pays off. After reading, reading and more reading...making
odd maths to fit the budget...finally Apple makes something good.
In this case, what sold me was the video card. I thought they would
stick with the 64Mb for the next two years. I do not think it is
the best vram but still will run Tiger fine. Farewell ibooks, minis and
the pricey powerbook !!! Funny thing is that I do not like all-in-one
computers but this config makes the sacrifice worth it.

I noticied one thing though...if you choose the new imac with the
wireless keyboard + mouse the price goes up ~60 dollars.
BUT...if you get only the imac with regular kb and mouse,
the wireless set is... ~60 dollars...so what ? Why someone would
choose wireless over the wired on the order ?

Anyway, this does not matter.
:D

I would never say never. If Steve did announce this, I would be very surprised. With just a month now till WWDC, just think if that configuration was available why would they wait.

i have of course no specific information about a 23" imac. but steve said its the year of HD. and they introduced the old 20" imac in between updates as a total surprise. so i'm hoping. but of course the actual 20" is very tempting because you get 10% more computer for 25% less money if you compare same specs. that makes the imac 20" loaded at $2100 a really great value. even Tiger and iLife05is there. the deal is even comparable/competitive to dell hardware/junk prices.

12" PB + 20"imac is the dream combo. they should sell it as a bundle with 10% off...........

I Would go for an iMac 2Ghz G5 But.. WWDC is in a month coming. so i would wait a while before i make a purchace. also. the price and specs of the dual 2.0Ghz G5 powermac atracts me .. Don't know what to do ? Any suggestions ?

I ordered mine a few hours ago ... base model, with Bluetooth Keyboard and Mouse, I'm so pumped!

i wont be getting one. desktop computers aren't my 'thing'. maybe when i finish university ill settle down
if i did have to get a desktop, it would be that beauty though :)

I also ordered mine a few hours ago. The middle model with 1GB RAM and 250GB hard drive.
