Which do you prefer and why?

I have had a pro, so I’ve used the ASK with the 1st/2nd gens, and the keyboard folio. I LOVE the feel of typing on those. However, I like the idea of being able to have the iPad sit a bit higher, and also be able to take it off easily for using without keyboard.

Pros/cons to each?

I *want* the Magic Keyboard but I am not spending $300 on a keyboard that has had questionable quality issues. I simply use Smart Folio and Magic Mouse — does the job Just fine.

Why do you want it over the other? It seems like it really isn’t that much more by the time you buy the KF and mouse.

One less thing (mouse) to carry around, that is the main reason I want the Magic Keyboard.

My mouse works on multiple devices, so it is easy to justify/spread the $80 cost.

Well, I've had the keyboard folio briefly... and it was nice experience typing on it. I can't really speak on the MK, but judging from the reviewers who speak about it... I'm sure it's wonderful as well.

If I didn't have my setup that I currently have. And your asking me to choose between the two? I'll definitely go with the MK... mainly for the stand aspect. Having had my dock/stand for awhile now, perhaps about 5 to 6 months now. I enjoy having that view point. It's much more pleasing to the eye, imo.

I have a 3rd party Smart Folio that I picked up from Amazon... and I only use it when I'm out. But around the house.... I stay with the stand/dock. I just feel using the Keyboard Folio, from a viewing aspect... isn't as better as the MK.

Having done both....Magic Keyboard!!! Typing is much better than Keyboard Folio and the screen angles are perfect for me. Much better package IMO.

I could go either way. I have both and just moved to the Magic Keyboard from the keyboard folio. The folio is not a bad deal, its one that can stay with the iPad full time. It can fold back, be a keyboard, or lay flat for tablet use. The magic keyboard has a far superior keyboard, built in trackpad and well, thats the main points. Sitting here now, this time of day I much prefer the magic keyboard. Away from my desk using it like a tablet in a place that might want to type more I would like the folio. I have been using both. I pop the iPad into the keyboard folio and leave the magic keyboard at the desk. If travel starts up again I assume I would take both or if just the magic keyboard.

Pick one: magic keyboard since the other mode is tablet use and the keyboard folio does not make it a better tablet.

I have had the keyboard folio for 18 months I guess and I could sell it but why, its already money spent so I keep it and use both.

I’m all in on the folio. They can be had slightly used for peanuts (mine cost me $54 plus shipping on eBay). I confess I’m a bit of a “never nude” with my iPad so the idea of yanking it off the Magic Keyboard to use it as a tablet was a turnoff for me. And I also really dig the feel of these fabric-covered keys, and how sleek and lightweight the package is to carry around. I know the SKF is an acquired taste and it ain’t perfect, but I like it a lot.

I do have a MBP for so-called “serious work” though, so I don’t feel a need to turn my iPad into an approximation of a laptop, which really is the MK’s M.O. I might be tempted to take one for a spin if it were, say, 50% cheaper, but for my needs it would pretty much be redundant, and I’m sure I’d still find myself using the folio a lot of the time.

The MK trackpad has more useful features than the mouse, so the experience will be completely different. Even on my Mac Mini, I had the mouse first but purchased a trackpad because the mouse lacked certain gestures than the trackpad. That, plus the typing experience makes the MK such a better experiential purchase (didn’t say financial!).

Okay I don’t love using my iPad with the keyboard folio on it. I hate the exposed keys and the bulk. That’s why I think I might prefer the MK then a skin on the back of the pad for when I pull it off for tablet use.

Now to decide on size.😩
