does anyone know what ive been doing wrong? ive been on this forum for a week already! i know that i may seem rude but if you have done this for a week and no go you would be pissed too.

Error 6
Means that the phone is in standard recovery mode
You need to be in DFU Mode (Black screen)

take a look at this site
http://www.iphoneunlockuk.com/index.php

Although they charge once they do keep up with informing you of updates etc. Saves having an expensive brick.

i dont know if this is part of the restoring process but ive just noticed that when i put my phone into dfu mode it stays in there for a while. Then while its restoring it goes into iboot. Maybe thats part of the problem? because its starts in dfu then goes to iboot while restoring because it doesnt fully stay in dfu

Error 6 is the result of the .ipsw firmware not compiling correctly. It is not compiling correctly because it cannot find the boot screen image; for obvious reasons it crashes.

I personally tried to no avail to find the stock images as this would be the only solution currently to 'appear' stock.

Dude, you're not missing anything yet. You've got stability, speed, and all those actually useful apps on 1.1.4. You're probably going to be disappointed like a hell of a lot (if not most) people are in the upgrade, especially when you realize how few jailbroken apps you have to choose from, and how there's little that's actually useful in the appstore. :( Hunt around on these forums, and do some reading, and you might give upgrading at this particular moment a second thought. 2.1 should be out soon, to make up for the 2.0 an 2.0.1 quagmire.

do you guy) think it is wise if I upgrade my jailbroken/unlock iphone1.1.4 to offcial 2.0.1. Then use winpwn to pwn it to 2.0.1?

but the problem is ive tried it numerous occasions to try to pwn it to 2.0.1. Ive tried everything you guys told me, ive even tried searching on google about this error 6, but nothing seems to work.

To jumpman, I was in ur position for a couple days, follow this guide i copied from sleepers.net(Authored by Big Boss)
DFU (Device Firmware Upgrade) mode is not the same as restore mode. DFU mode bypasses the current OS installed and allows you to upgrade or downgrade your OS. If you are getting errors trying to restore in iTunes, DFU mode is very likely for you.

This is how to achieve DFU mode. You can do it on every phone:

* Attach the phone to the pc
* Turn the phone off
* Hold power and home together for *exactly* 10 seconds
* Release power but keep holding home until the pc beeps as a USB device is recognized.
* At no point will the display come on. Now your restore should work.
Hope this helps, jumpman, got mine to work!!!

An 'unknown error (6)' is the result of not being in DFU Mode. I would recommend getting the timing just right. The screen should be black the whole time you are holding the buttons and when iTunes finds an iPhone in discovery mode. You may also want to a) Try another computer b) Use the actually Apple firmware c) Reinstall iTunes

I had the same problem, I thought I was doing it in DFU Mode but I was actually in Restore mode, and I kept getting the Error 6, please make sure you are in DFU mode before trying to restore the 2.0.1 Firmware. Also see if you have the latest iTunes version. Good luck!
