I redid my network and was getting everything back on-line when I realized my old 1st generation airport express was not showing up in airport utility 5.6.1 (the version that works with the old base station). Does anyone know how to fix this? I tried resetting the base station and rescanning form airport utility.

How is it currently connected to your network?

It was connected as an extender to another airport express. I had two extenders branching off of the other AE. One AE acting as an extender is the newer model.

Strangely enough, the other (old) AE shows up under the wifi menu up by the battery and clock. When I click on it it opens up airport utility (the current version) and gives the typical "this version of AU does not support this base station," however, it does not show up in v5.6.1 AU.

Try doing a full factory reset and configuring over Ethernet.

I've never done that before. Can you give any instructions or a link to some?

You would unplug the Express, insert a paper clip into the reset hole, plug it into power and hold until the light flashes rapidly. Then connect a known good Ethernet cable from the LAN port on the Express to the LAN port on your computer and fire up AirPort Utility.

Thank you so much! We are back up and running.
