I use my MacBook mostly in clamshell mode.

I have the 2015 versions of the magic keyboard and trackpad.

They've been surprisingly good to use.

I have the opportunity to upgrade to the new magic keyboard and trackpad when I upgrade my MacBook to an M1.

What are your views on comparing them?

* durability
* comfort
* bluetooth reliability (very good on 2015)
* ergonomics of keystrokes (2015 had MacBook Pro 2015 like softness and travel)
* sound when using
* accuracy of trackpad

They’re virtually identical save for some cosmetic tweaks as far as I know. Some have reported the trackpad has a slightly different sound.

The trackpad has a sound?

Mine is totally silent - how I like it.

Is this a new mechanism in the new trackpad?

There’s a little haptic engine which, so I’ve read, is slightly different/tweaked. But otherwise completely functionally the same. Other than the rounded corners of both the trackpad and keyboard, and of course the TouchID key, they’re mostly the same.

The keyboard’s iconography on the function row has been updated to match the M1 MacBook’s keys, including a Siri dictation icon and the Globe/Emoji icon on the Fn key.

The 2015 keyboard quit working with a relative's M1 Mac Mini. Even Apple Support couldn't figure out why.
