    What do you think?

Isn't the TB Display backwards compatible? So it's pointless now to buy a new "old model" for $999.

If they want to sell their remaining stock, they would have to lower it right? (Nothing drastic of course)

I was going to buy a Refurb, should I wait and see?

Not pointless, if you have a non TB machine, then you will not be able to use the newer Thunderbolt display - basically most machines from 2010 and older still need the LED display.

It's not backwards compatible. You can use the display port monitor with a thunderbolt machine but can't use the thunderbolt monitor with a non-thunderbolt machine.

why isn't it compatible? As long as you can use the TB port as a mini display port I'm happy I don't need the transfer capabilities.

    Ah okay.

Well I dont know - I was just thinking, why make TB the exact same port & connector as DP, if you weren't planning to let DP devices connect....?

I saw this on the Apple website. I guess I'm interpreting it wrong:

The new display will be MiniDisplayPort compatible but supports Thunderbolt (i.e. you can daisy chain two displays or add a TB RAID system connected to the Cinema Display)...or two of them.

It will still be compatible with all machines supporting MiniDisplayPort but you will not have Thunderbolt capabilities if it is not a 2011+ machine, it will just function as a display but you will not be able to chain Thunderbolt devices onto it.

Anyone is aware if the end of a thunderbolt chain can be from another data bus? Like this chain: MBP-TB Display-NonTB Display ?
