Hi,

Does anyone know what the OLDEST version of Adobe CS that will run on the new iMacs?

We don't want to use the subscription model so are looking to buy old software that will still work.

Possible solution: My wife has an old PC version of CS2. Is there a version of Windows we can still install on a new iMac and run through BootCamp?

Just trying to strike the right balance here.

THANKS FOR YOUR HELP!

Brian

I believe CS3 is the oldest release that will run on current Macs. Earlier releases were coded for PowerPC based Macs and will run only on PowerMacs or on Intel Macs running older versions of MacOSX, something no recent Mac can do.

CS2 will run fine on Win10, but Adobe no longer maintains the servers that validated the serial numbers. If you want to run CS2 on Windows you need to contact Adobe customer service to resolve the serialization issue.

Up until a month ago I was using ID CS4 on the MacPro at work running Yosemite. That was for compatibility with the person in our office using it on a PowerMac G5.

No idea if it will continue to run on anything past Yosmite though.

However, if you use a font manager keep in mind you will be limited by that. Suitcase Fusion 5 was the max I could use because Fusion 6 dropped support for CS4.

Our editor and her assistant use CS2 on Windows 7 and 10 PCs.

There is a support page Adobe maintains that will give the serial numbers for CS2 registration and activation.

It's easily found with a Google search but at some point Adobe put it behind their login wall (you need to login to your Adobe account to see it now).

There was somewhat of a dustup when Adobe released them because people mistakenly assumed Adobe was putting CS2 in the public domain. They weren't, the serials were just being provided for legitimate owners because Adobe shut down the CS2 activation servers.
