Old Apple ID just for apps, convert to email?

Hi, sorry if this answer is buried somewhere in the forums.

I have an old apple ID that just a username (not email) for app purchases and a @me.com account I use for iCloud.

Is there any disadvantage to updating the old username to an email? I share my purchases with my wife, including in-app purchases. Does it just cause me to re-login to all devices?

everything with the account would remain the same; all that would be changed is the primary address (apple id)
