Old CD drive for current MacBook Air.

I was thinking of removing the CD drive of my white plastic macbook, mid 2008, stick it into a cheap SuperDrive case on ebay (http://www.ebay.com.sg/itm/New-USB-...-12-7-9-5mm-/191676061601?hash=item2ca0c897a1) and use it for my current Macbook Air.

Would that be a feasible idea, and does anyone know if it will work?

Yes it should work. The listing says it's USB 2.0. But, is your drive really only a CD drive? Apple's Specs call out a 8x SuperDrive (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW).

Why not just get a new USB drive from Amazon for like $25?

Uhhh, the Early 2008 MacBook has a PATA Superdrive I'm pretty sure. This changed for the Late 2008 and Early 2009 models and on. So it won't work with a standard SATA Superdrive enclosure.

I'd do as suggested above and grab one off Amazon. I got a cheap Samsung DVD R/W drive for like $20-25 a while back for my rMBP. Works fine.

I have to agree. Even if it would work, why go to all that trouble when new drives are cheap and have a warranty?
