My Power Mac DA has been sitting in a corner not being used a very long time (10+ years). It was given to me by a coworker that bought a sailboat and couldn't take a lot of things with him.

I cranked it up yesterday and it is slowwww when browsing. I haven't done anything else with it yet. Safari won't render most HTTPS sites and I can't find any browser that'll run on Tiger that has ongoing support. It's running Tiger.

If I decide to actively use it, it'll be with an alternate OS (most likely one of the BSDs). I like fixer projects but this might be something that I might not want to bite on since it's such an old system -- I can probably get it running decently well with a BSD flavor, but once that's done, I can't see this machine doing all that much in my house, as I've much better systems.

I can also stick it back in the corner and wait until I'm like 80 yrs old so I can have something to challenge me in my retirement. :)

Oh ye of little faith....my Powermac has considerably less horsepower than yours....

Yeah, that right there helped me decide to not use my Power PC as a workstation/desktop, and I don't think it'll work well as a server in this day and age.

I can see if I can find someone that wants it, or donate it to GoodWill.

Ok, so I got the fan sorted but now the machine won't run. No startup chime, no video, the fans just ramp up to full speed. What could I have done wrong? I've checked & double checked. It was running before - just the fan wasn't working!
