I could swear there was a news item in the last two weeks about someone using expired pancake mix and dying from it.

Jello, on the other hand, should be safe but flavours will change in intensity.

When I was visiting my grandparents not long ago, I found a box of rice that expired in 1983 in their basement. :D

That's precisely what I do too. Although, I'm a stickler for fresh milk. I always dig to the back of the milk case at the store when I'm buying milk. I want the coldest, freshest carton. Yeah, very Clerks, I know.:D :)
I hated people who did that when I was working in the dairy. We put the older ones in front for a reason!

And how's this for expiration: My uncle has most of a 6 pack of Guinness bottles in his basement. They were purchased in 1983. HE EVEN TOOK THEM WITH HIM WHEN HE MOVED IN THE LATE 80'S!

True, but it depends on the bread. Not sure I'd be into bread pudding made from rock-hard whole-clove-garlic bread..... I didn't really think about that because I don't coat meat with breadcrumbs (e.g. schnitzel, chicken parmegiana, or breaded fish), but you're right, it's a great 'second life' for stale bread.

dude, crostini.

I think he was trying to make something that actually tastes worse than a Coors or a Bud.

A couple more decades and he should be getting close. :p

Rice should last a long time, Rice Krispies a little bit shorter with Rice Krispies Treats turning into funky **** rather quickly.

That would be on option. Another would be using it to make stuffing. That would be some pretty tasty stuff actually. Add in a bit of sage and some parsley. Bread the bread into pieces slightly larger than the standard bread crumb and add to mixture of boiling water/butter/broth. (1 part liquid 2 parts crumbs by volume iirc)

It was from anaphylactic shock and moldy mix.
