My friend is offering me a old .Mac Code that is still in a sealed box.

If I buy it, will the code still work?

I am not sure we can answer that here
Your best bet is to check with Apple

Some 13 year old kid here on the board could tell you "yes" and you might buy it and be out of luck 'cause Apple says "no joy"

Apple still says on their .Mac > MobileMe transition FAQs that you can do it:

"I have a .Mac retail box. Can I still use it to activate?
Yes. Just go to http://www.me.com/activate and enter your code to get started."

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1932

It's up to you if you try it, but I'd hope that if they keep that on their site, they'll honour it.

If you decide to go ahead and the code doesn't work, MobileMe support SHOULD help you activate as the FAQs still mention it.

Then again, MobileMe is never predictable!

think so

I really think so, I continue to use some older .mac coupons I have had fine. These are from .mac 4.0

Or some 39 year-old IT Guy/Engineer could tell you "yes" because he did it recently.

Yes it will work. I used in back in December to activate my MobileMe. Bought old .Mac 5.0 off eBay and used it to extend my 60 day trial for another year. Unless Apple disabled all previous .Mac codes which I highly doubt they have, it will still work.

If he is a friend, can you not ask him if you can use the code and providing it works you will pay? If it does not work he would not be out anyway because it is not lie he could have sold it anywhere else. At least if you try it and it works then you pay.
