I have an older Mac Mini that I bought used.

    here are the specs:

2.0 GHZ Intel Core Duo Processor
    2 GB of RAM
    120 GB Harddrive
    Model: A1176

I am looking to upgrade this with an SSD and more RAM.

The SSD part I am not really worried about and that seams fairly straight forward. But I am not quite sure about the RAM.

Anyone know how much RAM this can hold?
I know that currently it has 1GB x 2 so I could probably go 2GB x 2 and be safe but I am not sure if I could go any higher?

Any input would be great. thanks guys

You sure that doesn't have a Core 2 Duo?

You can put a maximum of 3Gb in it. You can either do 2x2Gb or 1+2Gb.

My bad. You are right it is a core 2 duo. I always confuse myself with that double negative haha.

Anyway. Thanks for the reply. Does the 3GB limit still hold true with the Core 2 Duo?

Yes, while you can put 4Gb in the Mini, it will only be able to use 3.3Gb.

One more question. The CD drive in my mini doesn't work. So I use an external drive for the rare occasion when I do need to install something from a disk.

When I pull the hard drive and put my new one in, Will the mini automatically recognize the external drive and be able to boot from the OSX disks?
