    Howdy-
I recently got the new MacBook Pro 15 running the latest OS.
I still have my older MacBook and it's so old, '09 running 10.6. and she still has some life left in her.
I know they can be connected- but for the life of my I can't seem to find out how I can use the old one as an extra monitor! I am in Spain and it is a little tricky to get help over here and couldn't find anything on Google. Anyone that can help with this would be incredible.
I have a thunderbolt cable- went from mini-vid to thunderbolt on the new. Nothing.
    Thank you!

Can't be done, sorry. The Mini DisplayPort on the old 2009 will only output video, not accept incoming video.

You can do it with software like AirDisplay or Screen Recycler

But a monitor is like $100...

Definitely. I bought a 24" Asus monitor that directly supports HDMI, DVI, and VGA for under $100.
