Im getting rid of my hp laptop, it just sucks! But well. Someone is selling a Macbook Pro (last gen) new for 1500 dls. At this price, is almost the same as the new Unibody macbook (non pro). How do they compare to each other? I use this laptop mostly at home as i have a netbook for use at college. So which one is a better deal? Thanks guys

The last gen Macbook Pros are pretty decent machines, and especially their graphics card- which is better than the current ones in the Macbooks.

Providing specs of the Macbook Pro in question might help in understanding which is a better machine.

It is the 2.4 C2D with 2GB of ram and 160gb of HDD. Is the new 9400m faster than the 8600m? Thanks

Nope.

9600GT is a die shrinkage of the 8600GT with a few improvements

9400m is about 70% as fast as 8600gt. Good enough IMO. But as far as performance gots

9600GT > 8600GT >>> 9400m

I'm not trying to be a d#@k, but you'd get a lot of info and opinion right now instead of waiting for a day or two for it to trickle in.

You won't be upset with 2.4 C2D from the previous gen. Mine is still a very capable machine that has been doing me justice since summer '07. And imo I like the previous body design and matte screen over the new glassy unibodies. Just my choice.

The 9400M isn't that fast. 55% would be more accurate.

I just got the previous gen macbook pro 15 from the UCLA store here in Los Angeles for $1199. I am not even a student. I think this was a really good price and I love it. 2.5 250gig 2gig ram
