Old Micro-DVI MBA -> New Mini DisplayPort Apple Displays

As of mid September 2010, I finally found the first advertised DVI to Display Port adapters, so older Macs like mine can use the new display port Cinema Displays. Unfortunately, they are expensive ($150 for an adapter!), require USB power (they're an active device), bulky (they weigh 2 pounds), but the one total killer is that none support higher than 1920x1200 resolution, which on the 27" monitor must be further reduced to just 1280x720 to fit the aspect ratio. 🙁

Guess I'll have to roll the dice and buy a Dell monitor for my 17" Macbook Pro. 🙁 What was the first year that Macbook Pro's even came with a display port? Wasn't it 2010 models?

You might want to look at AT-DP400 which is a dual link DVI to Mini DisplayPort Converter, which does support iMac's highest resolution of 2560x1440.

The AT-DP400 has no input lag. The AT-HD620 has a lag of 1ms, which is not noticeable by human🙂.

I've also noticed on youtube some people complaining about flickering, is that a solve problem?

1. The reason why there is no lag when DP400 is used is because it is based on a very high quality format conversion chip. Also, we pass though EDID file to the PC, which means that PC is seeing a display vs a converter that it has to adjust to.

2. As far as HD620, we are using a scaler, even-though it is a very high quality scaler there still will be a lag. We were able to lower it to 1ms is because we were aiming this product for gaming industry.

3. In relation to flickering issue, it is probably related to long Mini DisplayPort cables. The resolution is extremely high (dual link) and it is very hard to pass it on long thin cables. If the cables would be 3 to 5 ft, there would be no issues.
