Overall, for Gaming, Video editing, and photoshop. which one will be overall better? asuming they are exact same price. o, and both standard config, brand new, in box. so basically machine vs. machine in raw power. Thanks for any help.

There are some benchmarking comparisions in the Mac Pro forum, so I would look there.
However, I would consider waiting for some real-world tests as I think these can be more helpful when thinking what your using the machine for.
I would expect gaming to be better on the quad, though.

didn't they just come out with benchmarks stating that a single i7 2.93 has better performance than the octo 2.66???
anyways... the i7 will rock the gaming benchmarks simply because the octo xeons aren't optimized for gaming... they are server chips...
but lets not forget the gpu's... the 4870 is heaps better than the 3870 add-on for the older mac pros.
