Old Pismo PRAM problem

I have on old Pismo that works "sometimes".... I'll explain.... If I leave it on standby it works fine...But if there's a power cut it wont boot again (dead battrery) Sooo!!! I open it up and pull the PRAM lead and then it will boot.
Next time round the power goes and it wont boot again...sooo ! open it up and replug the PRAM lead...then it'll boot..... ad infinitum....
WHY ?

Did you ever reset your PRAM (I don't know if this even makes sense because it might be volatile memory)?
