I have an old pre-Cingular ATT phone, just got an iPhone and bypassed the activation. Unfortunately, after using Independence and AnySim on v1.1.1, the phone won't accept my old sim card. As I see it, my only choices are
    1. Buy another (cheaper) phone with an ATT account and swap the new card
    2. RE-virginize my new iPhone and open a new ATT account and move the number over (old acct through my work, might be too tricky to just continue it)
    3. Sell my pretty new iPhone and forget it.

Any suggestions? My old SIM is recognized in my son's older iPhone, but I think that AnySim failed on the newer version.

I bet you sim is simply outdated. It has to at least have 3G inked on it somewhere for sure, but even then it may not work.

Other option is, if you still have an ATT account with that older phone, is to walk into a store and just pick up a new sim for that phone. Microwave it or something :D... then they have to replace it. I think you get up to two a year free. Once you have that new sim, try it.

Thanks. I tried just asking for a new SIM, but was told that because it was from the pre-Cingular days that they couldn't do it...maybe if it were fried....

orly? i walked into the local Corp. AT&T store showed them my old Cingular Sim and did a little song and dance about service issues and was handed a new Blue AT&T sim within 5 minutes.
Guess it helps do it 10 mins before closing on a Friday :)

I used an old phone once and put a password to the Simcard. That locked out the Simcard so i could not use the phone. I went to the store and they made me buy a new one for $20 or $25.
