My question is, why is it so horrible for people to reply to an old thread? I have seen a couple recently where someone did it (likely by mistake) and the poster always gets completely mocked for it. Why is this such a horrible thing - especially if we are encouraged to find existing threads before starting a new one?

There is nothing at all wrong with posting in an old thread, but you are correct... we do seem to have a handful of petty forum members here that never miss a chance to make a rude remark in a resurrected thread.

The funny part is, I think I would miss many of these thread resurrections were it not for the three or four bumps from people pointing out the thread is old.

Often it is fairly obvious the posts are from a new member that was trying to be helpful and just did not notice the thread was old. No need to be rude really.

Like some of the examples mentioned here, I think many times bringing back on old thread is the best option.
